Commanders Coach Takes Responsibility for Keeping Jayden Daniels in Contest Before Serious Harm

Washington Commanders leader Coach Quinn has admitted he bears some the blame for a serious injury to the team’s quarterback, Daniels.

Details of the Harm and Context

Daniels, who had one of the greatest first-year performances in history the previous year, suffered a displaced elbow joint in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Although Daniels throws with his dominant arm, the injury has placed his campaign in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage did not show replays and several athletes turned away as Daniels was treated by team doctors.

Criticism and Coach’s Response

Coach Quinn came under criticism as many felt the rookie should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter with the Washington behind 38-7, rendering a recovery unlikely. It is common in such situations for teams to insert their reserve QB to avoid injuries to their starter.

“I understand. I’ve been reflecting about it constantly, too, and, man, I missed it,” he remarked of his decision to leave Jayden in the game. “This is 100% my fault.”

Fallout and Team Outlook

Marcus Mariota will be the team’s primary QB going forward, but he will guide a roster in turmoil. Following making the NFC championship game last season thanks to the rookie’s excellence, the team have faced difficulties currently. They also saw injuries to defensive back Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver McCaffrey (broken collarbone) on Sunday, and have a host of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are 3-6 so far, and it would take a massive turnaround for the club to make the postseason.
